Background
In early 2020, a Lutron product manager came to UX with a simple ask - help define the future of our lighting system, RadioRA 2, because its sales were stagnating. The focus was on reducing the entry barrier for new installers to adopt the system. Since this was an overhaul of entire business line and lighting system, I worked with the product manager to define which features were important for MVP - from setup, to ordering and installation. These were large features that needed to be shipped in a short time frame. I led a team of 2 designers to help ship these features.

Deciding on the user persona
This system requires an electrical license and was sold, setup and installed by professional electricians and integrators. Most homeowners would rely on the installer to recommend, optimize and deliver the best experience. Hence we focused on the professional installer's journey and pain points.

Defining the user journey
I mapped the installer's journey to identify which problems we wanted to solve and gleaned the four phases in the journey that needed the most attention.

Testing hypotheses
To help us finalize key product features, I defined hypotheses and rapid tested them using quick prototypes. The key was to answer questions around the system's overall proposition, the ease of setup, the ordering process and the ease of final installation.
